Why Christian Nationalism Won't - Cannot - Work

Christian nationalism seems to me an unholy union of Pentecostal Evangelicals and white racists. The former will - sooner or later - take issue with Roman Catholics and mainstream Protestants.

Dr. John Borelli's Protect Ukraine’s Long History of Religious Diversity on Public Orthodoxy gives a good example of why religious pluralism is a good thing and promotes a sturdier society than narrow sectarianism.

Because Ukrainian history has involved both times of religious persecution and suppression and periods of tolerance and cooperation for the common good, Ukrainians can understand that they have thrived when there was little political interference in religious matters. After one terrible incident of inter-church violence in 1996, President Leonid Kuchma decided that separation of church and state was the only course. He is quoted as saying, “We must not return to an earlier, discredited course of redistributing churches and church property and groundlessly taking it away from one and giving it to another. This cannot and must not be the sphere of state activity.”
