Shadow of the Wind

Last  night I finished reading Carlos Ruiz Zafón's The Shadow of the Wind (Penguin  Books, 2204; Lucia Graves, translator) -a fine mash-up of gothic horror, bibliomania and historical fiction. A blurb from The New York Times Book Review  combines Umberto Eco with Jorge Luis Borges while I would substitute Wilkie Collins for Borges. I cannot think that there is not a bit of allegory about Barcelona and/or Spain under the fascist Franco.

No quotes since nothing would work when wrenched out of  its context. Also,I was having too much fun to take notes. It was just fun to read - entertaining without being stupid.
