Music!!!

I lost interest in music about the same time I lost interest in writing. Both came back to me. The writing, then the music.

Items on YouTube, I hope you check out.

Willie Nile is a singer I found in college and kind of kept track of even after 1985. He remains creative. Willie Nile - A Relentless Rock and Roll Warrior is a long interview.

Songs from Willie, old and fairly new:

Jack Bruce died while I was in prison. A singer, bassist who I lost track of completely for all my admiration of his work with The Cream. This is a concert put on some of his friends. It stands as a reminder of the quality of his work that pop culture buried.

Now, from an entirely different direction: Hank III. That is Hank Williams III. I had an album of his before my arrest, and found him wild and creative and fun. I think his tide has turned in the past 16 years, but give him a shot. Here is a live show.

Want to see Warren Zevon, Linda Ronstadt, and Bonnie Raitt (and a few others) circa 1977? Then check out Wonderland. Not a history so much as a time capsule of the LA scene back then.

Once upon a time I had a Roy Wood album - I thought it bizarre and wondrous and fun - and once upon a time I was an ELO fan, and I knew of Wood from ELO. What I did not know was what became of him and why he had disappeared from view (well, from YouTube). Here is an answer that makes sense to me (and factor in that he is now old, Lynne ended ELO for good due to age.)

Open your mind and give him a chance.

Oh, about opening your mind - I suspect if you are younger than me, have never listened to The Cramps, you are too set in your ways to appreciate The Cramps At The Mudd Club N.Y., NY 1981:

I did not know who was Steve Ripley. YouTube showed I knew one of his songs, and then I found I liked his stuff. Enjoy Red Dirt Rangers Musical Tribute to Steve Ripley:

Another interview - Shemekia Copeland | Montreux Jazz Festival 2016

If you have not heard this woman's work, this is your chance to end your ignorance:
