A Pale Pink Monday: AI Problems, People Lacking Manners In Public; Indiana Politics, Again

It was not a bad day - out to Payless early (well, early compared to when I dragged myself out of bed), even if I missed the first bus home; I managed to get several chapters of "One Dead Blonde" scanned, and got the vacuum sweeper working. I talked briefly to CC and to Paul C. That got me up to around 4. The last 3 hours has been far more diffuse.

Is Indiana nightclub announces those under 30 will be denied entry: 'Go somewhere else' a sign of something? I notice there is also a difference in how people drive now - and it is not just Muncie drivers - who don't seem to have common sense.

A Brief History of AI Psychosis; A short story by Emmett Rensin is a bit long, and its dry sense of humor might not appeal to every, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will call it brilliant.

I have made a decision to submit nothing this month.

NOMINATING CHANGE: Beckwith says lieutenant governor selection bill would undercut parties’ grassroots power (Indiana Citizen) is something I have not seen anywhere else. Interesting that this is coming from Republicans, who have such a lock on this state, that Beckwith probably does feel targeted by his own.

Beckwith described his opposition as less about preserving his own political future and more about protecting the convention system.

“It’s really not about me,” he said. “I mean, I’ll be gone — Lord willing, maybe I’ll do two terms lieutenant governor, right? Then I’m gone. This is about protecting the future of the voice of the people.”

The debate spilled onto social media, where Beckwith accused Lopez of using the legislation for political purposes.

Responding to coverage of the bill on X, Beckwith wrote, “The Micah Beckwith bill has been re-introduced. Not surprising from the Republican who refuses to stand with President Trump and will try to take down those who do.”

HB 1022 is not the first attempt to revisit Indiana’s lieutenant governor selection process. During the 2025 legislative session, Sen. Lonnie Randolph, D-Hammond, introduced legislation that similarly sought to eliminate convention selection of lieutenant governors. Randolph’s proposal would have gone farther, repealing statutory duties assigned to the lieutenant governor and shifting those responsibilities to the governor, while requiring candidates for governor and lieutenant governor to run together as one ticket in primary elections.

No mention of what is to be done about the other state offices selected at the conventions.

I think the election of Governor changed in the early Seventies. Before then, the loser of the Governor's race got the Lieutenant Governor's job. I don't see that that coming back. What we have here, I think, is the after effect of that constitutional change. Beckwith only made the Republicans aware of the problem. What is interesting that the Republican bill does not seem to follow what the Democrats offered, more power to the Governor. Beckwith does have an interesting idea about the voice of the people. Indiana's Governor goes through a primary election, but not the Lieutenant Governor. So, did Governor Braun threatening primary competition for those voting against redistricting have something to do with a trimmer Republican bill?

There is much in Boys at her school shared AI-generated, nude images of her. After a fight, she was the one expelled (AP) that bothers me - the treatment of the victim, how teenage boys are wrapped in porn, and that no federal charges were filed. Worse is that my sentence was meant to deter people from transmitting images; these boys were not deterred. The party line taken by the federal government is that there is a commerce that needs to be stopped. What I saw is similar to this scenario: the childish passing along pictures they had no business having in possessing; not commerce, showing off. But really gripes me is the sheer malice by the boys and the lack of consideration by the school officials.
