Some Protestant predicted yesterday was to be return of Christ.
Why TikTok is freaking out over a Rapture (Yahoo), - it might be time to understand how many idiots there are on TikTok, which might make it less of a Chinese danger. A South African danger? A danger of the weak-minded?
Yes, but: Some TikToker users aren't scoffing at the Rapture potential. They lost their jobs or left notes for those staying behind. Others offered survival tips for the ascent into Heaven.
- "I know we're going home," one woman said in her video, which got 1.1 million views. She said she would make an apology video if "we don't get raptured.
Why are TikTok conservatives predicting the rapture this week? (Al Jazeera)
Clinical social worker and author Josie McSkimming says beliefs about the end times can become deeply ingrained, especially for people who grew up learning about them in church, with real-life events like Israel’s war on Palestinians in Gaza potentially bringing those emotions to the surface.
“I have clients who have exited those churches, who have found themselves very dysregulated, very distressed, hypervigilant, fearing that this is the end times,” said McSkimming, who is from Sydney, Australia, and is the author of Leaving Christian Fundamentalism and the Reconstruction of Identity.
“Even though they don’t believe in hell, and they don’t believe in the Apocalypse, and they don’t believe in Armageddon, they’re very distressed because their family members are saying it to them. Their friends are saying it to them,” McSkimming told Al Jazeera.
He never said when He was coming back. That is to keep us on toes, to constantly be repenting, not to give us a warning on when to be Christ-like.
Not that our right to be free is safe: Donald Trump threatens to sue ABC in scathing rant as Jimmy Kimmel show returns.
In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump criticized ABC’s decision and repeated his long-running feud with Kimmel, who has often targeted him in monologues.
"I can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back. The White House was told by ABC that his Show was cancelled! Something happened between then and now because his audience is GONE, and his ‘talent’ was never there," Trump wrote.
"Why would they want someone back who does so poorly, who’s not funny, and who puts the Network in jeopardy by playing 99% positive Democrat GARBAGE. He is yet another arm of the DNC and, to the best of my knowledge, that would be a major Illegal Campaign Contribution," he added.
He continued, "I think we’re going to test ABC out on this. Let’s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 million. This one sounds even more lucrative. A true bunch of losers! Let Jimmy Kimmel rot in his bad Ratings."
MAGA furious at Disney and ABC over Jimmy Kimmel’s return: ‘They let the woke mob get to them' (Independent)
Andrew Kolvet, Kirk’s former executive producer and a Turning Point spokesperson, wrote on X: “Disney and ABC caving and allowing Kimmel back on the air is not surprising, but it’s their mistake to make. Nextstar and Sinclair do not have to make the same choice.” Kolvet appeared to be attempting to exert pressure on the two right-leaning networks to continue to refuse to air Kimmel’s show on syndication.
An account on the same platform called MAGA Voice added: “Disney ABC let the WOKE Mob get to them and decided to bring back Jimmy Kimmel. TIME TO BOYCOTT DISNEY.”
Former Trump critic turned MAGA-loyalist Megyn Kelly observed: “Must be nice to be a leftist. ‘Cancellation’ lasts five nights and you’re right back under klieg lights. On the right, you’re underground.”
Cryptocurrency influencer Tiffany Fong posted a profoundly unappetizing photo of a chili dog and claimed she could attract more responses to her tweet than Kimmel’s average viewership, which she put at 126,000, claiming victory in a follow-up despite the audience figures for Tuesday’s show not having been published yet. They are likely to be far in excess of his usual numbers due to the heightened public interest.
Conservative comedian Rob Schneider, the star of Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo (1999) and The Hot Chick (2002), meanwhile, put up an open letter to Kimmel accusing him of misrepresenting his original comments about Kirk in his opening monologue and being personally responsible for the state of political polarization in the U.S.
The world according to Trump: You’re all ‘going to hell’ — and I’m your only hope (Independent)
The downside of the failed rapture was that Trump spoke at the UN. He upheld the tradition of upholding America to the world, dignified, and inspiring - not.

What does this mean for the UN? That the liberal internationalism which underpins its bias towards free trade, human rights, and free and fair elections has lost its chief backer. Other countries are jumping at the opportunity to fill the vacuum. Qatar wants to host some offices of the UN’s workers’ rights agency. The Chinese Communist Party sits pompously on the Human Rights Council as the rights of Uyghurs and Hong Kongers are rendered in the past tense. China is poised to begin dictating terms at the World Health Organisation. At the same time, the UN faces competition as a forum for diplomacy from regional groups such as the EU, Asean and the African Union.
Trump’s ‘right about everything’ rant offers no answers to a world on the brink (CNN)
Trump and wars: The president claimed, “I ended seven wars, and in all cases, they were raging, with countless thousands of people being killed. This includes Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, the Congo and Rwanda — a vicious, violent war that was — Pakistan and India, Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Armenia and Azerbaijan.”
But Egypt and Ethiopia were not actually at war during Trump’s time in the White House. They have a long-running and unresolved dispute about a major Ethiopian dam project on a tributary of the Nile River, but this is not a war, so Trump couldn’t have ended one there. Similarly, while Trump has previously claimed to have prevented the eruption of a new war between Serbia and Kosovo — providing few details about what he was talking about — those countries weren’t in an actual war either during Trump’s current term or during his first term, when they signed an economic normalization agreement brokered by Trump’s administration in 2020.
In addition, Trump hasn’t actually ended the conflict involving the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. The peace agreement brokered by the Trump administration and signed by the DRC and Rwanda in June did not involve the rebel coalition, allegedly backed by Rwanda, that has seized territory in the eastern DRC, and CNN reported from the ground this week: “The scores of militia groups that have fought for three decades in one of the most protracted and complex conflicts in the world are still engaging in deadly fighting, and US President Donald Trump’s claimed peace deal for the nation feels like a distant dream.”
Trump’s importance and success in addressing the other four conflicts he mentioned can be debated. Notably, while Pakistan has heaped praise upon Trump for playing a critical role in brokering its May ceasefire with India, India has rejected the claim that he did so and said it resolved the conflict directly with Pakistan.
Trump's printed UN script reveals secret behind unhinged speech style (Irish Times)
As he continued reading his speech on a piece of paper, a picture captured the president’s remarks, showing a confusing speech printed so the president would be able to read it.
The picture showed the president’s speech in a huge font, which could be an indication of the 79-year-old president’s declining eyesight, a common sign of aging; as well as random words in all caps such as “gasoline,” “grocery” and “mortgage rates,” three things that the president campaigned on during the 2024 presidential election.
Trump’s speech, which more than tripled his allotted time, was filled with misleading claims, including ones about him putting an end to seven wars in just seven months. Among the conflicts he claimed to have prevented were those between Israel and Iran, India and Pakistan and Congo and Rwanda.
The World’s Brittlest Ego Meets The Globe’s Biggest Stage (The Bulwark)
Think of what it’s like to go through life as this guy. You’ve just spent a decade purging your party and personnel of all but the most pliable and spineless tongue-bathers and yes-men. You sit atop perhaps the largest and most powerful cult of personality the world has ever seen. You’ve repeatedly demonstrated your love for retaliatory action against everyone who displeases you on any matter, no matter how petty—business leaders, opposition politicians, international leaders. And recently, you’ve shown zero compunction about wielding the entire U.S. government to settle those scores.
The result is a life crammed with people, from sunup to sundown, who do absolutely nothing but kiss your ass. It doesn’t matter if you’re meeting with your staff, your congressional allies, business leaders in your country, foreign allies, foreign foes—every single person you meet knows their best course of action is to spend the whole interaction buttering you like a roll. Add that on top of your preexisting lifelong egomania, and it’s a wonder you haven’t actually gotten around to proclaiming yourself Lord of the World.1
This isn’t just a deeply stupid state of affairs—it’s dangerous. Trump’s increasingly ironclad sense that everybody, more or less, worships the ground on which he walks strengthens his confidence that he has no need to triangulate on even his most controversial actions. Why seek consensus from across the aisle when you are convinced you’re the consensus?
‘Erdoğan’s speech reminds UN to uphold foundational values for Gaza’(Daily Sabah)
He added that countries that openly or covertly support Israel, particularly the United States, must cease making statements that leave Israel room to maneuver. “The shame of the 21st century, policies that erase every humane and moral sense toward babies, women and the elderly, must end now,” Bahçeli said.
Who would ever have thought Erdoğan would be inspiring instead of the United States?
Closer to home:
Namely, Trump’s allies in the House could contest the narrowest Democratic victories, demanding 2020-style recount after recount to engineer enough ballots to win. If state election boards resist, Trump could pivot, goading Speaker Mike Johnson into tasking the Committee on House Administration, or some other panel packed with MAGA acolytes, into investigating bogus allegations of fraud. Following typical election-denying logic, they’d eventually hit Trump’s numbers, and then Johnson could push for a full House vote to seat the aggrieved Republican candidates.
Too brazen, even for MAGA? It so happens that Speaker Johnson has the authority to do it. “Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members,” the Constitution stipulates. In 1969, Congress passed the Federal Contested Elections Act to further delineate the statutory machinery for executing its constitutional authority to judge contested House elections.
The Assault On Knowledge (Sheila Kennedy)
Rather obviously, the lack of individuals able to understand foreign communications will make it more difficult to conduct international affairs and to recognize threats to U.S. interests. Those interests may not be a “priority” of this administration, but they’ve been a very high priority of previous administrations–and of the legislators who continued to authorize and fund the programs.
It’s unlikely that most Americans will ever hear of the discontinuation of this particular program, or the negative results that will flow from the significant number of other abruptly terminated education programs and research projects. What we will experience, however, is a steady diminution in national health and in economic well-being, and a substantially reduced ability to protect American interests internationally.
Of course, as the missive from the Department of Education candidly admitted, the protection of America’s interests are not a priority of this administration. That has been obvious for some time. The clear priority of Trump and his collection of clowns, misfits and grifters is the exercise of power and the ability to line their pockets–the corruption of this administration puts Teapot Dome to shame.

Rokita advises it would be ‘wise’ to remove teachers who express support for political violence (Indiana Capital Chronicle)
South Bend Community Schools Superintendent Mansour Eid said the district appreciated Rokita’s memo and analysis, which was generally consistent with the legal opinion its attorney provided. They also emphasized, though, that actual disruption must occur to take action.
“Our locally elected school board and its appointed superintendent are in the best position to assess the disruption factor consistent with the law. They live in the community, they know the people in the community, they observe action in the community, and they have to respond to their constituents in the community,” Eid told the Capital Chronicle.
Speaking of education:
CC's probation violation hearing got continued, I mailed off manuscripts, went to Payless, and then came home. And waited for Cc to show up. She did not. I napped for two hours. Another of those naps that takes more out of me than put back more into me. My sister did not show up. Things did not get packed. I did fix a fish soup that was good. What I had in the crock pot was not. I take to KH. Pretty much a zombie for the rest of the night. I went to Tubi and wound up watching a gonzo Mel Gibson movie, Fat Man. He can still act, but from his choices he feels rather lost.I slept in today, started on this post, and now that has come to an end. Packing, and, hopefully, a thing at Ball State and a hair cut.
