Claudia Cardinale Died

Claudia Cardinale had toughness, charisma and sensual allure. Yet Hollywood just couldn’t do her justice (The Guardian)

1960s movie star dead at 87: ‘One of the greatest... of all time’ (Syracuse)

She was the center of "Once Upon A Time in The West" - the only creative force in the movie, and I will watch it every time I can. There was something more real about her than with Sophia Loren - who still lives.

Twenty years ago I want to start a cidery; I was talked out of it. Glad to see someone did it:

This Indianapolis cider maker named one of best in nation (Indy Star)

On a list that featured cider makers spanning from Arizona to Upstate New York, Ash & Elm came in fifth, ahead of Chicago's ERIS Brewery and Cider House. The list credited Ash & Elm for its variety of flavors and the food served at its restaurant-bars in Indianapolis and Carmel.

Ash & Elm was founded in summer 2016 by the husband-wife duo of Aaron and Andréa Homoya following a trip to Ireland that steered Aaron's passion for brewing and winemaking toward the fruit-forward world of hard cider, per Ash & Elm's website. The Homoyas steadily built a strong customer base through retail sales of drinks like the Sunset tart cherry cider and Fleeting Youth raspberry and lemon cider, all made in Ash & Elm's Near Eastside production facility.

"Going For The Kid" Got its first rejection.

Thanks for your submission, but I'm afraid we won't be accepting this particular work.

As always, I'm happy to discuss further if you'd like. (Note that it can take a couple weeks or so for us to get back to you on this.)

All the best,
Jeff

Of course, I wrote back:

Yes, if you do not mind (meaning there is nothing inherently godawful about the idea or its execution that put it beyond the redeemable). Time is not an issue. Thank you for your time.

Sam Hasler:

Otherwise, I did a post this morning and updated my last 24 hours. I fixed lunch, did some email, took out the trash, and then CC called. I got her about 12:30 and was back around 1. I have packed most of my books. The front room is done; so is most of the bedroom. She still wants me to rent a house. I took her home after feeding her - with trips to the bookstore, by the new place, and one house she wanted me to rent.

Back here, I have a little headache. Off to Evansville tomorrow, so I need to be up early. Regular mail needs to be dealt with.

I forgot about  these rejections that came in the past two days:

Thank you for the opportunity to read "The Unintended Consequences of Art." Unfortunately, your story isn't quite what we're looking for right now.

In the past, we've provided detailed feedback on our rejections, but I'm afraid that due to time considerations, we're no longer able to offer that service. I appreciate your interest in Clarkesworld Magazine and hope that you'll keep us in mind in the future.

Take care,

And:

Thank you very much for your submission to Common Ground Review!  We appreciate your patience.

"Agnes" was given careful consideration, and I am afraid it did not match our specific needs for our current issue.

We wish you good health and the best of luck placing this story in another journal.

Sincerely,
