Why Don't American Newspapers Support Writers?

 From The Irish Times: Fighting Words; Young Irish Writing. Take a look at the selections, there are even a few I noticed using Gaelic. 

That is the Irish. Why does not the New York Times, or the Chicago Tribune, or the L.A. Times, or the Washington Post, or any of the Gannet papers do anything like this?

Then, too, where are our Indiana newspapers - what remains of them - in supporting our culture?
