Why do women vote for Republicans? Why do they not turn out more to vote against Republicans?
Low wages, child care availability push women out of Indiana’s workforce, Ball State study says
In 2022, the median hourly wage for a woman in Indiana was $21.53. But after factoring in taxes and typical child care costs, an average worker at that rate could earn less than $4 an hour. Similarly, that same year, the national median hourly pay for child care workers was $13.32. These low wages make it hard for employers to attract staff.
“The problem is, on both sides of this, is that we’re not seeing high enough wages,” Hicks said. “And so we know that the thing that would improve wages, for both women in the workforce here in Indiana and child care providers is better education.”
NC restrictions will create financial barriers to most-vulnerable women, doctors say
For women seeking a medication abortion, the bill proposes two new requirements: one in-person appointment at least 72 hours before the patient swallows the pill, and an in-person appointment one to two weeks after.
In effect, these will require women to travel back and forth three separate times to an abortion clinic. They are already required to be in the office when they take the pill.
Doctors say the new requirements create financial and logistic barriers for women who live hours from a clinic. In North Carolina, more than half of women live in counties without an abortion clinic.
