Chilling on Saturday

Up early, fixing "Road Tripping" still.

I submitted “Blue Eyes Flashing Doom” to Foxes Dancing Around. It is probably my most upbeat story, this is a student-run magazine.

Epiphany was slated on my calendar for a submission, but I cannot recall what I thought to send to them. Where is LAH when she could possibly be useful? I decide to send “Reunion”. Do not ask for a reason – it has been one I have not so diligently shopped around, is all I can say for myself. Good thing I gave it a look, there was a typo in the first word. WTF? I know I sent it out. Did not see this? Really, this is beginning to worry me.

I got word today on a submission made back in April:

The editorial staff of Berkeley Fiction Review has read and reviewed your story, “Aftermath.” We gave your submission serious consideration, but regret to inform you that we will not be able to publish your story in our upcoming issue.

We appreciate your support and we are pleased that you chose to submit to Berkeley Fiction Review. Thank you for your submission and your continued interest in our journal.

Sincerely,

The Berkeley Fiction Review Editors

I have not had the more recent revisions of this story rejected - yet.

After going to Dollar General this morning, I did some more revising to "Road Tripping" and nibbled at the email. I should've made calls. Maybe tomorrow.

I decided to get to Payless for groceries, so I caught the 12:45 downtown and the the 1:15 Northwest Plaza bus. Except I went to Staples first. They had no cameras, so I lusted over printers and monitors. I spent about $30 for groceries. I got home around 3 pm.

Back to working on "Road Tripping" and cooking dinner and my laundry. I had my pork and beans after I finished the laundry that was around 5:30.

Since then I have done a little reading and a little looking for places to submit my stories. Among those places are :

I am passing on Artemesia Publishing because I do not have a book ready, and The Odd because I don't do flash.

Some of the reading I have been doing:

Why do Indiana hospitals charge more in poorer communities?

"The Daniels: On Four Latine Authors Named Daniel" by Matthew Frye-Castillo:

These essays operate on the basic theorem that “Nations themselves are narrations…. Culture is a sort of theater where various political and ideological causes engage one another” (Edward Said, Culture and Imperialism). If such a suggestion perturbs you, or if you’re still refusing to touch a copy of White Fragility, you are advised to check out either of these books then circle back to these essays. Gracias and well wishes ☺

It is going on 8 pm. I have been up little more than 12 hours. The cough is better. Church tomorrow. I think I will try to a little more with "Road Tripping."

I leave you with John Lee Hooker:
