Zora Neale Hurston's The Conscience of the Court

 I was checking out the stories published by The Saturday Evening Press when I noticed Zora Neale Hurston's "The Conscience of the Court." I found it another Hurston's blending of high language and low. Am I wrong in thinking there is a slyness in it, when the simple woman manipulates the system?
