My daily reports have lagged because I have been lagging. I called in sick today - yesterday I had a throbbing headache, a shortness of breath, and a dizziness I could not shake. We had our last heat advisory. This morning, it has been raining since the early hours. How do I fight the heat - keep hydrated - and the water retention - don't drink more than 2 liters?
Yesterday, I did get out more than I had the rest of the week. I went to CVS and got my prescriptions filled. I also took my life in my hands by having a Quarter Pounder with Cheese - the first time in over 40 years. It sucked just as much as it did then. This had been on my list from prison - things I had not done for a long, long time. Also, I went to the post office and sent off the documents requested by the trust to settle that matter. Then it was back here. Dinner. I took out the trash and that was when I started to fall apart. No nap, might have been part of the problem. I got home at 1 PM and worked on paperwork, a little tired from work, but not feeling any problems. Looking around the apartment, I had to acknowledge I was having problems, and the thumping heart did not make me happy. After about 11 hours of sleep, I feel better - somewhat. That the heat has broken may have done even more for me.
Tuesday, I was put through my paces at work. Five hours with about 10 minutes for a break; which is about the same for Wednesday. T2 was to come up, so I did not take a nap. When she finally let me know she was not coming, it was around 4. I was falling asleep in my chair.
Convenience store runs were all I saw of humanity outside of work.
Until this morning, this is all I accomplished. "No Ordinary Word" went out to The Rumpus, Pennelle Magazine, Short Story, and The Missouri Review on Saturday. The Saturday Evening Post on Sunday. Tuesday I sent the story to Passager and Waywords.
This morning I found out Joe Rogan had been on Talk Radio - this the guy who everyone pays attention to?
I also got an insight to the limits of the American mind:
We have been dullards for a very long time. Interesting how many include Peter Sellers. Does anyone younger than me even know who he was?
But here is an interesting American mind: Ten Questions for Joy Williams (The Paris Review).
Speaking of convenience store runs, I need to make one now.
