Political expert explains impact of political town halls (wthr.com)
"In today’s political climate, these town halls are not always easy, but they are an essential part of the democratic process," Spartz said in a statement Monday. "I appreciate all the 5th District constituents who took the time to attend, ask questions, and engage in meaningful discussions. The radical left still hasn’t learned that shouting and screaming won’t work — no one is going to be intimidated and silenced. I hope at least some attendees were able to hear the common sense policies I am working to implement to benefit all Americans."
No, Representative Spartz, those shouting at you were not representatives of the Trotskyite Workers Party. Those are the people you represent in a heavily gerrymandered district who are puncturing your bubble of self-congratulatory righteousness arising from an ideology divorced from reality. You and MAGA have created the expectation that you will improve their lives. You did this by distorting reality; by flooding the field with BS. Now, you get to reap what you have sowed. Eugene Debs is long dead, so calling ordinary Hoosiers finding your political regime is costing them the life promised them radical leftist is laughable.
However, Ms. Spartz did make me wonder what of a radical left exists in Indiana.
There is a Socialist Party in Indianapolis: Party for Socialism and Liberation. I suspect there were more people at your Muncie town hall than who belong to this party. Until you got me motivated, I did not even know they existed.
There were Socialists in Indiana: Socialist Parties and Movements (Encyclopedia of Indianapolis). They were not successful.
But Indiana only shows three parties on their ballots: Political parties in Indiana (Ballotpedia). I suppose for a person backing an authoritarian takeover of the United States, the Indiana Democrats backing our traditional democratic constitutional government is a far left party.
I guess Ms. Spartz expects her constituents to come to her town halls and adore her, perhaps kiss her feet. That seems to be the tone set by MAGA's leader, Donald J. Trump.
Let me suggest Ms. Spartz learns something of Indiana's history.
I will close with Left And Right from Sheila Kennedy, who knows her Indiana, to explain what Representative Saprtz meant by the radical left at her town hall meetings:
Bottom line: The “libs” that MAGA delights in “owning” are the Americans who believe in retaining a government that operates under the Constitution and respects the rule of law. Full stop. We may disagree strongly about aspects of that operation, about the extent of federal authority, about the optimum contours of our social safety net, over what constitutes “merit”–but today, the “Left” that MAGA hates is composed of all conservatives and liberals who believe in retaining a government that answers to We the People.
According to MAGA, any American who wants to retain our democratic republic is a Leftist.
