Here is an idea I had kicking around for a few years. I never could think of a satisfactory route.
Organize a bike races that covers all of Indiana. Impose the Tour de France on Indiana, okay?
Could it not be US 421 from Michigan City to Madison? What then? East and north of Madison on Highway 1, and back north? Or west along the Ohio to Evansville, then north to US 40, and then east to Indianapolis? Or up to US 67 and then north?
Any route misses something interesting. There is this great little highway running north of Oldenburg to US 52 that is full of curves. (I always wanted a sports care just to drive that road.) Then there are the hills of Brown and Morgan and Monroe Counties (and others south of those counties).
Done correctly, this could be a boost to the whole State of Indiana. Depending on the route, this will benefit certain areas of the state.
Could we fit together a route including Richmond, Rising Sun, Madison, Correct, Gnaw Bone, French Lick, Terre Haute, the far western counties, Monon, Wanatah, Elwood, Union City, Auburn, and still end in Indianapolis?
Truthfully, dither about the route and nothing will get done. Get a route, get the money for a purse, and get going.

[Ah, how grand to have Internet access! Today, I found there are bike races in Indiana: Cycling Races 2022 - 2023 : Road Races held in Indiana, RAIN – Ride Across Indiana, Central Indiana Bicycling Association, and Bike Rides in Indiana. None seem to take in the whole state; maybe the idea is too big. INdot has its highway maps here. sch 11/13/22.]
