This headline caught my eye: War in Ukraine is testing some American evangelicals’ support for Putin as a leader of conservative values.
Why?
...Those American believers, including prominent figures such as Graham and Jay Sekulow of the American Center for Law and Justice see Russia, Putin and the Russian Orthodox Church as protectors of the faith, standing against attacks on “traditional” and “family” values....
Well, Orthodoxy takes a different view:
- Metropolitan Epifaniy in the city of Bucha: The executioners brought hell to our land
- Ukraine and the ecclesiastical guilt
- Ecumenical Patriarch: The invaders of Ukraine seem to want the humiliation of the proud Ukrainian people
- Archbishop of Cherniyiv: Sanctions should be imposed on Kirill and Hilarion over the war in Ukraine
- Epiphaniy: The ideology of the “Russian world” is the same as the ideology of Nazism – Kirill is co-creator
Have American Evangelicals again gotten so intoxicated by the fumes of political power they have forgotten the teachings of Christ?

Updated 4/8/22: The Bulwark published Holy War which makes this connection between the Russian Patriarch's sermon justifying the war as saving the world from gays and others:
...Such language is almost indistinguishable from how many (most?) white evangelical Protestants and right-wing American Catholics talk about modern society.
