Would that some day I did have a book tour, but the same a question comes up when I mention I am writing as it did in Jason Mott's The Impossible Question at the Heart of Every Book Tour.
His solution:
So you start talking about story events and antagonists and character arcs and Faulkner—for some godforsaken reason that you don’t actually understand—but after you’ve done that a few times in your tour you start to realize that all you’re really saying when people ask what your book is about is “Well…stuff and things and I wish I knew.”
Mine was to lie, to make it sound more palatable to a drug dealer from Virginia. That may change nowadays, but I am still trying to figure what my "Chasing Ashes" is all about except an ex-con, Ahab, Edgar Allan Poe, the Devil, and American history.
