Oh, yesterday was to be my day out, a chance to get things done.
It wound up with me losing electricity in my apartment, no new driver's license, no application put in for Medicare, no getting the jacket from the dry cleaners, and nothing much written.
The electricity shutdown came about because I called the maintenance line about heat in the apartment. Being an idiot, I chose to get help through text messaging. The other end suggested that I check the circuit breakers. I spent the better part of three-quarters of an hour with the texts and then trying to get electricity back on. Having a dental appointment at 11:30, I had to leave before getting electricity back on in the bedroom.
On the way to the dentist, I called the maintenance line, again. This time I decided to get a live person. After two minutes, that line disconnected me.
The property management company being between the apartment and the dentist, I stopped in there. I emphasized the lack of power in the bedroom impacted us of my CPAP machine. Also, I found out the heat was not electric but came from a boiler. Which meant that the maintenance text line was ignorant and useless.
A tooth needs to be pulled, but the others are clean. Fillings or crowns lie in my future and with them a drain on my bank account.
Off to the BMV, where I had time to call CC and find out what happened with her PO, only to find out I had brought the wrong paperwork.
I stopped at the bank on the way home; made an appointment for tomorrow afternoon.
Having still ambitions of going to Family Services, I headed west. A stop at the old apartment gave me some mail that had not been forwarded. Hunger pangs had me stopping at Payless for a few supplies. There I decided to go back home.
MW had a crisis with which she needed my help. Wanting a meal (there is only so far one bowl of oatmeal goes after 4 hours) and needing to work on her problem, I came home.
I worked through her problem by 6 pm. Dinner was a - if I may brag - rather nice fish stew. But by 8 pm, I had slogged through enough time on the computer and went to sleep.
And I slept hard, I woke at midnight thinking it was later. I used the time to write a blog post, clean up the tabs, and some of my email.
I got another rejection yesterday:
We have carefully considered your submission, "Agnes," and regret that we do not have a place for it in Indiana Review. We appreciate your support and wish you luck placing your work elsewhere.
Sincerely,

This morning has been working through the emails, doing a little research for “Chasing Ashes”, and making notes for this blog.
Unruly Interviews: Janet Lewis Saidi on Jane Austen's Subversive Writing
Liking but not finished: Steven Schwartz's The Theory of Everything (Electric Literature)
Ah, the uses and misuses of history - and which I did finish: The Growing Schism Between Bible Scholars and Israeli Nationalists (The New Republic). I recall St. Paul writing that the Church is the new Israel (Galatians? I am too lazy to look right now.) Yet, Protestants of what I think of as belonging to a blasphemous strain have promoted the State of Israel as a forerunner to the Second Coming. Who pops up as misusing history? Protestants. And with that misuse of history and blasphemous idea of goosing the End of the World, America bases its foreign policy!
Dishes need done before I can fix my breakfast. I have been awake for almost 4 hours. It is feeding time.
Wish of the morning with some wisdom from Dave Alvin:
