Ball State Student Takes On AI

Jayden Vaughn's The Endangered Art of Writing leaves me thinking that college-age people recognize the uselessness and dangers of AI.

But in today’s society, that dream is a dwindling hope thanks to artificial intelligence. In the last few years, more and more people are ruining the credibility of authors by using AI platforms like ChatGPT. Not only do people believe that being an author is not a form of sustainable income — if that wasn’t already bad enough — but many believe that AI is taking over the creative industry.

According to the The National High School Journal of Science (NHSJS) in June 2025, many creative writers claim that they are concerned that AI’s integration into writing could undermine the authenticity of their own work and the uniqueness of their creative voice.

Furthermore, NHSJS quotes a survey that was conducted by The Authors Guild in May 2023, which found that 69 percent of authors believe that their careers are threatened by generative AI, and 70 percent believe that publishers will begin using AI to generate books and replace human authors entirely.

In a society that is constantly evolving in terms of technology, AI isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. But why does our creativity have to suffer because of it?

I certainly agree with this, and I hope you do also:

Don’t let AI do the work for you. As a writer, I firmly believe that we should focus on finding our own voices and picking up our pens.
