I Fail The Yukio Mishima Test

 The test:

Especially this week and month when I had such plans to get some work done. Driving to and from Carmel twice this week for a polygraph took up no small amount of time. Throbbing feet counter all my ambitions - sleep is when I do not feel the pain. These are excuses. The truth is, I failed.

I left with more than a little lead time for yesterday's polygraph. The pain was not such that I needed a co-pilot. I passed, of course. The drive back was a much more leisurely one. I went out 116th Street, crossed over to 113th, and then down to Fortville via Southeastern Parkway. I probably should have gone left rather than right. There was something going on in Fortville, and the small town's streets were congested. I was getting hungry, so I passed by Pendleton for Anderson. Trying to decide what to eat was a problem; not helped by my stopping off at The Book Nook. This is probably the best bookstore I have known in Anderson. It is also a fundraiser for The Madison County Literacy Coalition, so go there and buy lots of books; Madison County, Indiana needs all the help it can get to raise its literacy rates. I bought three books - a Rex Stout collection, a cookbook for Indiana cooking, and a collection of Indiana writers. This is my fourth trip through Anderson; each time I notice another absence. I came up Columbus Avenue to Nineteenth Street. My Aunt Mary Ellen would be shocked by the park where she learned to play tennis - the courts have completely disappeared. Harvest Market grocery store has been retrofitted into a vape store and a gas station; the site looks ungainly. Several businesses gone. At Scatterfield Road, the abandoned, derelict Long John Silvers; it may soon be overtaken by the grass shooting through the asphalt. Thinking hot dogs might not be a good idea, I stopped at King Gyros instead of Gene's Root Beer Stand. Going home, I passed the old house on 10th Street that belonged to my Grandfather Hasler and then my Uncle John. This I had done before, and know the propane tank was gone, but now it looks to be empty. The Chinese restaurant is gone from Chesterfield; the ex-wife and the kids liked eating here, this is the last place I saw Linda Trout. I did my laundry when I got back to Muncie. We had a long, steady rain. At 3pm, it was like twilight had set in. When I got back here to my apartment, I went to sleep. Woke for a few hours, then back to bed. That last until almost 8 AM this morning.

About all I have accomplished is nibble on the email and work on some blog post. Right now it is getting so dark that I can almost see the keyboard. We may have rain, again.

Some items this morning for which I cannot fit into a solo post:

Toni at Random by Dana A Williams review – Toni Morrison’s editing years (The Guardian)

What Every Major Power Really Wants - Prof Jiang Xueqin

I listened to another of his lectures about economics. Although, I do not think Putin is a genius, the video makes a lot of interesting points and predictions.

A nap feels like a good idea.
