Political Carbon Monoxide Can Kill Us All

Carbon monoxide is a tasteless, scent-free poison.

First: the danger of propaganda and misinformation

Meet the Jewish students speaking to US lawmakers about Columbia’s protests (Al Jazeera) - Pro-Palestinian Jewish students are not what we hear about in the American press. As usual, the truth gets complicated, or does it? Has Trump used the very real evil of anti-Semitism as cover for clamping down on academic freedom, and against voices dissenting on our pro-Israel policy? Gaza is a disgrace to Israel and for us.

Second: the death of the Great Writ

From Steve Schmidt's These are dangerous days:

In the US system, federal courts can use the writ of habeas corpus to determine if a state's detention of a prisoner is valid. A writ of habeas corpus is used to bring a prisoner or other detainee before the court to determine if the person's imprisonment or detention is lawful. It has been suspended on just four occasions in American history:

  1. During the Civil War

  2. In 11 South Carolina counties overrun by the Ku Klux Klan during Reconstruction

  3. In two provinces of the Philippines during a 1905 insurrection

  4. In Hawaii in 1941 after Pearl Harbor was bombed during World War II

The threat to strip the ability of a US citizen of their basic legal rights is done by an act of Congress. It requires that there to be a rebellion or invasion against the United States by the US Constitution.

There isn’t one.

Donald’s fantastical lying has moved forward to a most dangerous place for 10 long years.

Now, he isn’t talking crowd sizes, but rather a made-up invasion that would allow for his jackbooted Gestapo to seize and imprison anyone, anywhere, for as long as the government pleases.

The implications would be enormous.

It is estimated that there are more than 393 million weapons in the hands of America’s citizens.

Donald Trump is provoking chaos for a specific purpose.

He is seizing power that he does not have — and must not ever have.

I think Stephen Miller more dangerous than Trump. The latter is a loud mouth conman with all the advantages that go with being a grifter. He is also limited by his lack of intellect. Miller lacks every talent for being the frontman, but he has an intellect, and a seriousness in his thinking. Suspend habeas, and you get a government that the English-speaking world has not known since Magna Carta.
