Theology of Disillusionment by Dr. Andrei Desnitsky (Public Orthodoxy) begins with a critique of Russia and its patriarch. That part needs read by anyone thinking Donald J. Trump can stop the war in Ukraine in any way that does not satisfy Russian imperialism.
Then the essay goes deep into the history of Christianity and its future. That makes it more than worthwhile for anyone with an interest in Christianity.
We live in an age of triumphant hatred, which usually considers itself righteous: tell me who you hate and I will tell you whether I will hate with you or against you. The Christian Church is called to show love to the world, and this can be love of self (its traditions and rituals, its hierarchy and privileges, etc.) or love of God, which always poses many challenges.
I think I incline to the existential.
