Fiasco Week

The move to the apartment has been the worst in my life. Thirty years and more of renting and this came as close to a disaster I have ever had. I was told there would be heat. Indiana in February requires a functioning furnace. I was told it was fixed when I moved in. It was not.

My temper flared finally, and there was heat. I caught hell from CC for how I hung up on the property manager. Well, the night before there was not only no furnace, there was no electricity. I could not even use the space heater. My legs cramped and spasmed from the cold. I woke at 4 am meaning to pack, but it was too cold. It was also too cold at 7 am. I finally started around 8 am. My fingers were too numb to type and I had ideas to work on for "Love Stinks". I followed CC's advice and retracted my ultimatum of moving if they got their maintenance guy out there. When I left the sheriff's they called and said it was working. I did have heat for the rest of the week. I am correct, it will be a good place to do my writing. Now if I can get my mattress into the place!

Work is good. I have a 15-minute walk to work now, this lets me pick up another hour a week. Muncie at 5:30 AM is very quiet and very dark, and it is rather pleasant for all it is akin to walking through a ghost town.

I fixed my first meal on Thursday. Fried eggs and pork chops. I missed fried eggs - real eggs - in prison.

Well, I came over to the motel I stayed at to get at my email. I feel certain that the government's monitoring software is keeping me from the internet and that may take some time to fix. I walked over to Ball State last Sunday while CC slept, but I could access BSU's Wi-Fi with the computer. It would work for the cell phone. I can connect here, which leads me to believe that the software is tied to an IP address. I cannot afford this once-a-week trip over here for internet access - there were around six hundred emails!

So far, no one has accepted any of my writings, but I did get another rejection.

Thank you very much for sending us "The Revenger’s Tale." We appreciated the chance to read it. While, unfortunately, the piece is not for us, we wish you all the best in finding a home for it.

Sincerely,

Clockhouse

The cat did not go along with me. It was a flat $305 fee and then a monthly charge. I liked the cat, but not that much. There was also a feeling that he spent time with another or others. I did not think I should take him with me. I heard from the maintenance guy at the motel that he has been seen around here. I will admit I had an eye out for him last night.

I do not need to see the sheriff again until May 14. Officially, I am no longer homeless.

Last night, I ate my first pizza in almost a year. Cousin Vinny's delivers. It was quite good, but I still think Greek's is the best in Muncie.

I wanted to get my ID updated yesterday. We had our first real snowstorm and CC had run out of steam. That meant I would walk a quarter of a mile from the bus stop with my laptop in a bag and my CPAP machine in another. in a snowstorm. Bad enough I forgot the laptop's power cord and had to grab the bus back downtown and walk to the apartment and then back to the bus station. Well, the people at McClure's were happy to see me when I came in for Coke Zero, Monday, I will trek to the BMV. (I should mention that Muncie's BMV is out in the boondocks, off the bus routes, and can only suppose someone made a killing in getting it there).

I am running out of time to write up this report.

I leave you with a few items from this morning's email:

People of These 6 Indiana Towns are Migrating to Other Locations (care to guess which ones are on the list? I also want to ask why are unemployment rates higher in Republican Indiana than in the country?)

John Mellencamp dares America to ‘show the carnage’ in gun control post

But the fiascos have not ended - there is a charge on my account that I did not ask for. I am about out of money for the week.

I need to get out of here, now to get to the bank, as well as running out of time on the rental for the room,

Oh, Bradley Cooper's Nightmare Alley is not nearly as scary as Tyrone Powers's version.

Sorry to KH and to CC for stressing them out with my problems.

I have sent off the following e-mail to my PO:

This will be the last pay stub I can send until I can get internet access.I had to come back to the motel last night to get access; There was no access through Ball State Wi-Fi. It would seem the problem is the monitoring software. I suppose this cam be changed, but until then I have no email and no access to my pay stubs either.
