I did not read Virginia Woolf until prison. That I consider now as a very great lapse in my judgment. However, the only novel available to me was To The Lighthouse. Reading James McWilliams' Shape Beneath Color: The Impressionistic Wonders of ‘To the Lighthouse’ clarifies a few points for me while also explaining why it felt such a comfortable book to read.
