I went off to work, as I have been doing all week. Afterward, I walked over to 8th Street to catch the #12 bus downtown. I had to get out to FSSA and before that I needed to check my bank balance. That done, I caught the #2 to FSSA. Not wanting to wait an hour for the #2 back into town, I walked over to Payless and got some groceries. With that I walked over and caught the #2 into town. I got the rent from the bank and caught the Whitely bus home.
I left work at 1:30 and I paid my rent at 4:30.
Back in the room, I ate dinner and looked at the email. About 5:30, I thought, let's knock for an hour.
Next thing I knew, it was 12:30 AM. Only I thought it was the morning, a bit confused about what morning. I cursed myself for not taking my medicine before going to sleep, then I tried figuring out what I had done Friday night, Only then did I realize I had done nothing except sleep. I ahd even put away all my groceries.
I walked down to McClure's for caffeine and cigarettes.
Back here, I watched TV before boating the computer. A little research on an idea I have been working on. A little reading of my email. Writing this post.
I want to look over what I did with one character in "Love Stinks".
It is now 3 AM. It all feels a bit out of kilter.
"Aftermath" has another rejection, this time from The Drift:
We're incredibly sorry for leaving you waiting for so long! And thank you for submitting your story to The Drift. Unfortunately, we went in a different direction for this issue. I want you to know that we spent considerable time with your story in particular, and admire it a great deal. I hope you’ll share more of your work with us in the future!
Very best,
Zain Khalid
Fiction Editor
I will take this as a compliment rather than just an easy let down, but it still feels like when you ask a for a date and told you're too nice of a guy.
