Genre Depends on Culture?

That is what I am thinking after reading Genre misalignment in translation ? on The Literary Saloon.

The original article makes a point that I think underlies literary genres - marketing:

Rather, the problem lies with the way books are promoted and sold these days. “Honestly,” says Powell, “I’m not sure how well (the genre label) actually serves him since, in plenty of bookstores in the U.S., his books get shelved with the mysteries rather than in the fiction section.” Many people who would love Nakamura’s dark fiction may never come across it because bookstores online and in the real world separate by genre, so it’s easy for cross-genre writers to get lost in the cracks.

I found the Japanese writers - Oe, Murakami, Mishima - blend genres, cross genres, and bend them. There is a lesson there. Probably not one I can use at this late, but maybe you can.
