Obama Proves American Exceptionalism, 7-26-2010

 [This one I could omit for no longer being relevant, but in a sense it remains highly relevant. I remain as shocked as I did when I wrote this at the bile spouted because a black man became President of the United States. While I never bought into the whole post-racism nonsense, I thought all should have been proud that after all our history of racism, this country proved its exceptionalism by rising above that past. sch 2/17/2023]

Something here I meant to say for quite a while in response to something put about by Rush Limbaugh and other conservative loudmouths. They seem to think Obama does not think America is all that exceptional.

I say what thy think exceptional is not all that exceptional. They prefer what makes us look like boobs to the rest of the world rather than what makes us look grand. They put the Bush Doctrine over the Gettysburg Address; they prefer Ann Coulter to Walt Whitman.

Consider these two questions:

1. Name any other major democracy electing the son of an immigrant to its highest office?
2. Name any other major democracy with a white majority electing a man of color to its highest political office?

Barack Obama need only look in the mirror to know how exceptional America is. We would do better to ask the conservatives why they do not find him proof of our exceptionalism.
