How Dim Are the Republicans?

B y now everyone knows Joe Biden outwitted the Republicans at the State of the Union speech. Maybe the Republicans believe their propaganda about Biden being a tool of others, of being senile. I think the Republicans surprised Biden only by giving him the opportunity he obviously had been waiting for. Check out the word canny. About the only Republican I see with any canniness is Mitch McConnell; which he uses for the sole purpose of being Senate Majority Leader,

Now the Republicans want to hunt down the truth of Hunter Biden's laptop. From Daily Kos' Raskin interrupts Republican obsessing about Hunter Biden to talk about issues that actually matter

It’s House Oversight Chair James Comer’s big day, and he’s being overshadowed by Rep. Jamie Raskin. Comer had hauled in former Twitter executives to explain why the company limited sharing of tweets about Hunter Biden’s laptop and penis, feeding right-wing conspiracy theories about how oppressed Republicans are. Raskin, though—wearing a bandana on his head because he is currently undergoing chemotherapy for lymphoma—repeatedly refocused the hearing on the things Twitter did not crack down on in late 2020 and early 2021—in particular, planning for and incitement of violence on January 6, and Russian disinformation accounts.

“Last night at the State of the Union address, over all the heckling, President Biden reviewed significant achievements his administration and congressional Democrats are delivering for the American people,” Raskin opened, offering a list of those achievements. “But this morning, we return not to focus on advancing this robust agenda of progress, but instead, to take up an authentically trivial pursuit, all based on the obsessive victimology of right-wing politics.”

I guess being thumb-sucking whiners replaces thinking through a strategy for success, for being prudent, for being anything than crybabies screaming for mom to come pat them on the head and tell them all will be well.

As I see it, Comey sunk Clinton.

If it is about politicians' relatives taking advantage of their relationship for profit, do the Republicans not recognize the exposure they give to Trump?

After helping prince’s rise, Trump and Kushner benefit from Saudi funds

In early 2021, as Donald Trump exited the White House, he and his son-in-law Jared Kushner faced unprecedented business challenges. Revenue at Trump’s properties had plummeted during his presidency, and the attack on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters made his brand even more polarizing. Kushner, whose last major business foray had left his family firm needing a $1.2 billion bailout, faced his own political fallout as a senior Trump aide.

But one ally moved quickly to the rescue.

The day after leaving the White House, Kushner created a company that he transformed months later into a private equity firm with $2 billion from a sovereign wealth fund chaired by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Kushner’s firm structured those funds in such a way that it did not have to disclose the source, according to previously unreported details of Securities and Exchange Commission forms reviewed by The Washington Post. His business used a commonly employed strategy that allows many equity firms to avoid transparency about funding sources, experts said.

A year after his presidency, Trump’s golf courses began hosting tournaments for the Saudi fund-backed LIV Golf. Separately, the former president’s family company, the Trump Organization, secured an agreement with a Saudi real estate company that plans to build a Trump hotel as part of a $4 billion golf resort in Oman.

The substantial investments by the Saudis in enterprises that benefited both men came after they cultivated close ties with Mohammed while Trump was in office — helping the crown prince’s standing by scheduling Trump’s first presidential trip to Saudi Arabia, backing him amid numerous international crises and meeting with him repeatedly in D.C. and the kingdom, including on a final trip Kushner took to Saudi Arabia on the eve of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack.

But then the audience for Republican Party disinformation is not the country, but that narrow band who believe in conspiracy theories and white supremacy and feel solidarity with the victimology. This tribe is most commonly known as the Fox News viewership.

Dumb breeds dumb – Senator Scot feeds Fox News, which feeds Scott's clique of voters who feed Scott's views.

I find the Democrats all too feckless. Republican incompetence trumps Democrats' fecklessness.
