The Literary Saloon comments on The New Yorker proposing the time has come for Salman Rushdie to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. I have not read enough of Rushdie's work to comment on the comment, but I thought the Nobel was awarded for a body of work rather than a single book. The Literary Saloon makes a good argument against on the grounds that his getting the Nobel as a statement is insufficient. I beg to differ. Statements need to be made. I would say making a statement only because of the recent attempt on Rushdie's life exposes the Nobel Committee as a shallow body.
