Donald Trump A Stalking Horse?

While.president I did not think Donald Trump all that great a danger. He had no ideology fueling a party organization such as did Mussolini or the Austrian paperhanger or even Juan Peron. I thought him our version of Silvio Berlusconi. Without an ideologic basis for Trumpism, it would be a phenomena whose end would be Trump ripping off his followers

Then came January 6, 2021. Then Trump seemed dangerous.

Now we have the January 6 committee hearings and a Trump who is a delusional Elmer Fudd surrounded by sycophants ready to hand him shotguns. Still, Trumpism felt too bound up in the man's perversity.

But what if Trump is only the front man for another's ideology? He is not a man of ideas. He is a man wanting power. He will not care about the sustainability of the policies he advocates past the time he can enjoy his power. True dangerousness comes when someone with policy ideas and ambition comes into contact with power.

I think Clarence Thomas could be that person. Ambition he has, or he would not be on the Supreme Court. To me, he has always come across as a person motivated by resentment, as having an axe to grind. The past Supreme Court term proves he has ideas and a desire to impress them upon the country. As for Thomas' influence: Ted Cruz says Supreme Court was 'clearly wrong' about 2015 same-sex marriage ruling.

Justice Thomas is not a leader. Reading 10 of Justice Clarence Thomas's former SCOTUS clerks have gone on to help prop up Trump sparked my thought that Trump might be a front for others intent on deeper changes, ideological  changes, to this country. I would prefer more information on how and why those 10 went with Trump when other of Thonas' clerks did not.

We need to start looking at how broad is the anti-democratic movement in this country. Like xancer we need see how far it is spread before we can root it out of our body politic.
