Muncie Does Murals

I wrote about Anderson doing murals here. Muncie has been thinking along similar lines.

The Indiana Economic Digest reprinted the official release. Why this outlet? I assume they see the economic benefits of having people come to Muncie to see these murals. The meat of the story is here:

Cornerstone Center for the Arts has embarked on an project to paint a series of outdoor murals throughout Muncie, according to a release. The murals are a collaboration between students and Cornerstone artists led by Leon Crosby, a member of the Cornerstone staff and a teaching artist.

The first mural has been painted outside the Common Market, 900 W. Eighth St. The market has been nationally recognized for helping the residents of South Central Muncie, where residents live in a food desert with little immediate access to groceries.

The theme of the Common Market mural is: “Be the Change You Want to See.” The Common Market supplied the paint and other materials.

Yahoo News also picked up this same Muncie Star Press story along with a picture of the artwork. SpotonIndiana also picked up the news.

Following up on this report, I found this link to other Indiana cities with public art:You Have to See These 20 Destinations for Public Art in Indiana. Muncie was on this list 2 years ago but there is no mention of Anderson.

Could there not be funding here - Indiana To Receive $1,112,000 in Funding from the National Endowment for the Arts?
