No one is going to think of me as an It Girl, certainly not an It Writer; not the way things are going. That Joke probably won't fly, but it s 5:32 AM.
Even if you are not a writer, Culture Magazine's Five Debut Authors Weigh in on the State of the Literary It Girl, a series of interviews, is worth reading. Time to face up to the fact that women writers face problems in getting published and living as writers - regardless of their talent, regardless of how much they put out here into the world. Being an old man who wasted whatever talent he had long ago but who persists in trying to get back into the game, I am willing to listen, read, and think about what everyone has to say. There are ideas brought up in these interviews that need serious consideration - and by better writers and thinkers than myself.
It’s the Writer’s Job To Say Something True (Electric Literature) is a group interview that touches on some of the same issues in the first interview. Certainly, its title is something we need to keep in mind.
