Another extract from my week-in-the-review post.
Chris Offutt on Outlaws, Scofflaws, and Kentucky Noir (CrimeReads) - I was curious about Kentucky noir and found some good writing advice. I did not see how the noir aspect might apply to my own writing.
The Immanent Grace of Flannery O’Connor (The Hedgehog Review) - I never read as much of Flannery O'Conner as I ought to have, but I think I finally get her as a Catholic writer. Grace is something not much given thought in my American Baptist youth, and it has not been an easy concept for me since I became an Orthodox Christian. Now, I am considering how little grace I give to some of my characters, and that I might still be caught in economic fatalism (the fatalism is a family tradition that got a boost from my reading Theodore Dreiser).
‘It Felt Like A Fork In The Road’: Stephen King Explains The Book That Changed His Writing Career And Gave Him ‘A Real Moment Of Doubt’ (Cinemablend) - if King should keep an eye on changing his subject matter, why shouldn't the rest of us?
