I slept early last night and was up at 11 PM, then back down at 2 AM. I turned up late to work. All I can say about this experiment is I did get a bit of work done.
Group went well. Notes will appear later.
I talked to CC on the way back from the grocery. She was upset at me for how I talked to her when I took her to rehab. I apologized without mentioning anything about how I felt she was wasting my time. Also, I invited her to church this Sunday. After napping this evening, I sent her a text asking her to let me know about church tomorrow before 5 pm, and that if I did not hear from her, I would assume she did not want to go. The more I thought about it, the more I came to the conclusion that she had no problem wasting my time. This was the last time I will invite her. She mentioned that she had not talked to me since she got home from her second inpatient treatment because of how I had spoken to her. Enough. I have put up with her little lies, and her paranoia, and I see no sense of keeping in contact with her. If she does not call tomorrow, I will let her fade away.
It is getting cold here. We have snow expected.
Don’t get distracted by universal vouchers
I intend a separate post on Russian Exceptionalism: Mining and Re-Writing Religious History, but it is too important to wait.
So, when you hear universal vouchers, they mean they will remove all income eligibility. The richest of the rich will now get state dollars to send their children to a private school. It will cost the state more. Though, given the behemoth price tag of the program already — about $600 million in fiscal year 2025 — it’s not much.
I’ve wondered why Eggers has chosen to adapt Nosferatu instead of Dracula when he clearly knows both canons equally as well, and this is my answer: Nosferatu, pirated from the novel and regarded as an illegitimate version for a long time after its inception, is not only one of the first feature movies ever made… it is also one of the best movies ever made. Cinema and cinematography were built on Nosferatu’s fragile bones, and Eggers knows that. And with his Nosferatu, Eggers has fashioned not merely a tribute, but an entire altar from which to pay his respects.
