Work did not go well, yesterday. First, I overslept - up too late on here reading. And not a little - I was about 90 minutes late. Then one of the line people and I got into a little disagreement; the boss lectured me about it later. I have been thinking of whether to start looking for a new job.("Sometimes, you just got to scrape the shit off your shoes.") I would like to spend all my time working on my writing, but I need to get some extra money. The only way I ever found to have the time to write without working was to go to prison. That will not happen, again! Then the PO showed up; his usual dour, lost look on his face. Turns out my phone called him, too. He said he was going to send me a new emergency plan - which is not here yet and he has mentioned it several times before. The other thing about moving is that one of my four reasons for taking this new place is its proximity to work!
After work, I made my way to the AAUW book sale. I had hopes of finding Doris Lessing's The Golden Notebook. I don't know why I expected to find that, but I did. It was the last book I found. When I left it was with 30 pounds of books - $1 for a pound of paperbacks. I found Noel Coward and Marat/Sade and Synge and Robert Louis Stevenson (after Black Sails, I want to re-read Treasure Island, and I never read Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde), and a bunch of history books.) I wound up walking with my box of books for about a quarter of a mile to get the bus.
While there (the Ball State Alumni Center), I spoke with a teacher from the Elwood Schools, she had been talking about book banning in Elwood. She siad there had been none.
I had called CC before I left for the book sale, and I spoke with her when I got back. She agreed to come over for pizza.
While I waited for her I read the following items.
Trump's case went to the jury and now we wait for the verdict. The AP reports.
If I had worked harder at math (or had just paid more attention), I would ahve gone intot the sciences - astronomy or something along the lines of archeaology. Law was merely a means to make money and read books. Therefore, I read Real-life 'Star Trek' planet was actually just an illusion caused by a 'jittery' star.
Chance Meetings: Online Literary Seminars tempts me, except I know only one work (Whitman's). They are $40. That lessens the temptation only a little. To hear Colm Tóibín talk about Henry James would be worth the price. Only the timing is wrong for this working stiff.
I no longer read comics, but may this will change: The Most Influential Batman Story is Finally Being Finished. I got tired of the comic book industry.
Reminding us that there are places in the world that do pay attention to their history: Erdogan: New provocation on the anniversary of the Fall of Constantinople.
CC showed up minutes before the pizza and sides showed up from Cousin Vinny's. We ate, we talked. She had turquoise earrings dangling; jeans and a white, long-sleeved light sweater kind of shirt. Her thinness still shocks; it makes her look desiccated. At least, she was not as stressed as she has been about her big rummage sale. We talked about our respective positions, where we had been, and what we might have done. She is thinking about a memoir. We talked about things we could do together. Fishing is top of the list. When she is like this she makes me think and feel in ways deeper and sharper. She is a puzzle - there is more going in her heart and mind than she has ever been able to bring to fruition - a walking talking contradiction - addict, lover of poetry (she found Stevenson's poetry when she dove into my box). She suggested that when she comes over we jointly read from books. When she is like this, it is joyous.
Okay, it is 5:20 AM. I need to clean up and get to work. Today, I will be staying here after work. I ahve research ideas for the law review article. I have email to deal with, and I need to get ready to put out more writing. CC read my short conedy play and found words were missing. The theory that my new glasses will help my eiditing is to be put to the test.
