What Immigrants Do For America - And Indianapolis

I hear Trump attacking immigrants - well, those from anywhere but Europe. When I spoke with my cousin in Kokomo last May, he made it sound like the migrants at the southern border were lining up with bayonets to attack us.

What I see are people wanting the safety of America, they come here because America is great. I do not see bayonets; I see people who have expended all their energy, risked their very lives, endured all manner of atrocities, just to get to America.

They do not want to take down America, they want America to raise them up. They want to buy into, become part of America. They will improve America.

What the native born will not do for America, the foreign born do: ‘Everybody wants a grocery store’: How SuperJams is filling a need for westsiders: An entrepreneur is investing in a food desert when few others would.

Paul Kumar, 29, recently invested nearly $1 million to open a grocery store called SuperJams Neighborhood Supermarket in the heart of a food desert on the west side.

Kumar, like Marquina, is an immigrant accustomed to having much easier access to groceries. He is originally from India and lived in Spain with his family before coming to the U.S. at the age of 17.

“People over there are used to walking to stores and not always driving there,” he said. “I thought, ‘Why don’t we bring that here?’”

This is what America will lose listening to Trump.
