Kenyon Review explains why it selected a particular story here. Yes, it gives me ideas of what I might be doing wrong - and right - with my own writing. It is short, so give it a looking at.
I like some of the ideas pushed by Naked Cat Lit Mag for "Road Tripping" - for all it being rather sexless.
Some places I have collected for possible submissions, which might not happen:

Lumina Journal:Boulevard strives to publish only the finest in fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. While we frequently publish writers with previous credits, we are very interested in less experienced or unpublished writers with exceptional promise. If you have practiced your craft and your work is the best it can be, send it to Boulevard.
To get a feel for style, content, quality, and form of the work we publish try a sample issue or subscription.
A Note From Our Editors: We take an inclusive approach to featuring a diverse array of writers from a wide range of backgrounds. While we welcome all narrative techniques, styles, and voices, we aim to publish work that highlights the day-to-day, recognizable trials and joys of living in our world. These pieces may be documentarian, strictly literal, or real-world oriented stories, or may be informed by the speculative, leveraging metaphor or analogue to reflect unique and shared experiences. The content might be true to the internal world (Charlotte Perkins Gilman, The Yellow Wallpaper) or the external world (George Saunders, Civilwarland in Bad Decline), but should always hold a mirror to the everyday and the mundane.
We are currently taking submissions in Art, Poetry, Fiction, Speculative Fiction, and Nonfiction until November 21st, 2023 at 11:59 pm

Hearth & Coffin Literary Journal
Hearth & Coffin Literary Journal was founded in Houston in 2020, later relocating to New York City the following year.
Founded with the explicit purpose of publishing new and upcoming writers with no submission fees, Hearth & Coffin places priority on provocative, exploratory, and accessible works that thrill and open the minds of readers.
There is no magic formula to being published in Hearth & Coffin. No amount of pedigree will guarantee a spot. Good writing is good writing, regardless of your degree(s) or lack thereof, your previous publications, your skin color, gender, or age.
Each Hearth & Coffin volume has a theme. Some themes are by the Hearth & Coffin staff and others are submitted by readers. The community is encouraged to follow Hearth & Coffin on social media for the opportunity to pitch upcoming themes and to keep abreast of upcoming volumes, open submissions, and other goodies.
Our reading period runs from October 15 until April 15. Please submit only one story or essay, or up to three flash prose pieces, or up to four poems at a time. Multiple submissions will not be considered.
We have two regular reading periods: April 1st - August 1st & August 15th - December 15th. During our regular reading periods we accept short fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and novel excerpts.
