The last two days I have been having a roller coaster of energy. I stopped at The Downtown Market yesterday, with thin intention of getting the remainder at The Dollar General. By the time the bus got me back here, I was just too tired. Almost the same thing tonight, except I was not sure if I could walk there and back. Spams, aches, just plain tired.
Last night, I heated up leftovers from earlier in the week. Tonight, I ordered a sandwich from Domino's.
Last night, I cannot remember much – I do think I worked on the Rushville section of “Road Tripping”. I know I did some reading online, and worked on the email.
I did all of that tonight. I know, because I just finished.
Last night this rejection arrived in my email:
Thank you for sending us "Reunion." We appreciate the opportunity to read your work, but unfortunately this submission was not right for us.
Thank you for thinking of us, and—
Best wishes,
The Editors of Copper Nickel
Okay, I am not sure how good that story is as a solo piece, as opposed to being part of a collection.
Tonight, I got this rejection for "The Dilemma of Basketball":
Thank you for letting us read and review your work. We didn't select your submission for publication this time, but we did enjoy reading your writing, and we thank you for submitting. Ultimately, we felt this story was not quite what we are looking for in terms of the issue’s theme and focus for this round. We wish you all the best in finding the right home for it.We would really like to see more from you during our next reading period, which opens Nov 15 for Issue 6 or in future reading periods. There might be a themed issue for Issue 6 and/or 7, so please follow us on Chillsubs, Twitter, Bluesky, Threads, or bookmark our website for updates!
We hope to see you submit in the future, and we thank you for trusting us with your voice.
All the best,
Hannah Cole Orsag
Editor-in-Chief, Heimat Review
I sent an email thanking Ms. Orsag for her email. It really has given me hope.
And I'm calling it a night. No alarm clock, I am sleeping in tomorrow. I emailed my friend how has been giving me rides to church that I will not be going this weekend. No response from him, which confuses me. I do not want to go anywhere if I might burden anyone. I was lucky to get through work today. When I headed out my left side spasmed. Just too bloody tired.
