Grumpy day

One day of work and I am wondering how I will make it the rest of the week. I decided tonight I need to make another visit to the doctor to see about my right wrist. Applications have gone out tonight. I got my distilled water after work, getting home about 5:30. I ate a small dinner, piddled with the email, and cannot figure out what to do with myself. What I had thought to do this morning feels just a bit too much tonight. Let's see.

True Love Ways Gone Astray gets its first rejection:

Thanks for sending us "True Love..." We found it well-written and possessing some realistic lines of dialogue, strengths a reader from our audience (a wide audience from all walks of life) could like. We're saying no, though, for 2 primary reasons: 1) it feels a bit too much like a familiar coming of age story for a COOLEST story, especially early on; 2) its premise is too murky for our audience, which likes a clear, striking, and engaging premise from the very start and throughout.

As you might suspect, we're being even tougher on mss for COOLEST 2024 than we were in our first two years--because the success of COOLEST 2022 last year and 2203 so far has raised the bar. We hope you've already read at least some COOLEST 2023 (which already has 50 reader reviews on Amazon, 47 o them 5-stars!}, to see the quality of storytelling our readers now expect, to be inspired by it as you write your next story, or for plain old reading fun. If you haven't, here's a link for your convenience: Coolest American Stories 2023: Mark Wish, Elizabeth Coffey: 9781737573920: Amazon.com: Books

Thank you for your interest in COOLEST, and pls feel free to submit again.

All best,

M

The Washington Post reported on Chinese balloons, Chinese balloon part of vast aerial surveillance program, U.S. says. Sounds like Biden did the best thing, and the Republicans are giving the Chinese ever so much reason to think we will not stand up to them.

I searched topographical maps for Brookville, Indiana. I have "Road Tripping" up to there and today I got wondering about railroads. No factories. I have looked for employment info here and here; none of which seem close by. Lensa has 11+ Largest companies in Brookville, IN by revenue. Only Owen-Corning seemed pertinent to my story. I also confirmed no railroad into Brookville. Fun seeing Brookville without the cost of traveling.

The Anderson Herald-Bulletin reports on the possible demise of another newspaper: Elwood, Alexandria, Tipton newspapers appear to get reprieve.

I have been meaning to post this link: How do you preserve history you don’t know exists?

I ran across this last night on Wikipedia: Cuisine of the Midwestern United States. In an email, KH complained the list lacked pork tenderloins and something else.

I did not finish Much More Than Student Loans at Stake in Lawsuit. The Republicans will stymie any federal action they can without offering any solutions of their own. I know about nihilism, this is it. A suicide pact.

Need to see if Biden is talking yet.
