Terrible subject line for a terrible subject inspired by Many Indiana students have to pay for school lunches again — which could increase debt.
Indiana does not keep track of statewide school lunch debt. A 2021 report by the Education Data Initiative estimated that Hoosier students owe more than $9 million for unpaid school meals. Advocates predict that number will go up.
So how do Indiana families manage that kind of debt? It cannot be easy; maybe impossible.
