The second play in Lillian Hellman's Collected Plays is Days to Come. I wrote about her Children's Hour in an earlier post.
This one is stranger than her first play. Think a mix of Dashiell Hammett and Ibsen. Strikebreakers and domestic turmoil mixed together. I do not think the play as bad as its reputation. I do not think it great. It is interesting.
There have been some recent productions with the Mint Theater having the most reviews:
- Days to Come Review: Lillian Hellman’s Flop about Labor Strife and Failed Love
- Off-Broadway Review: “Days to Come” at Mint Theater Company
- Days to Come'
One last thought, the play felt too packed as if Hellman was going for the neatness of a three act play when it needed another act.
