I cannot just live anywhere. Indiana law bars me from living 1000 feet feet from a school. If I am such a danger, I do not see how I am more of a danger at 999 feet (or 99 or 9). I have been turned down for apartments due to my felonious record.
Reading ‘They’re shut out of the market’: the struggle to rent with a criminal record did not fill me with hope.
If the American criminal justice system is not premised on punishment for the sake of punishment, then the powers that be need rethink of penalties they claim are not penalties.
