It's Friday, Joe

I am up early because my back went out when I got home yesterday. I decided to just give up on getting anything done, so I was in bed early. Having an x-ray later today.

A rejection came in:

Thank you for the opportunity to read "Napoleon Bonaparte Dreams." Unfortunately, your story isn't quite what we're looking for right now.

In the past, we've provided detailed feedback on our rejections, but I'm afraid that due to time considerations, we're no longer able to offer that service. I appreciate your interest in Clarkesworld Magazine and hope that you'll keep us in mind in the future.

Take care,

Not much new in the3 email, a message from Joel C on my published play, Ted Gioia's The 25 Best Online Articles of 2024: Here's my favorite longform writing of the year, and The 32nd Annual Night Before on XPN - closing hour

There was also a message from Charlie G. He says it will likely be his last message from Fort Dix. He is getting out soon. Except for Wesley, he is the last of my friends to get clear of the Bureau of Prisons.

From Gioia's list, I read The last crimes of Caravaggio. He is a painter that has always fascinated me.

I left work a little early. Besides deciding that I could get in my x-ray early, I am getting tired of the backbiting and the boss told me not to take a break at 10.

And I did get the x-ray done. This left time only to get two slices of pizza at Village Pantry before going to group therapy.

I took my notebook to work, only to forget it in the rush to get to the bus. Until now, I thought I could report on it anyway, but the whole thing has escaped from my memory. Something about exposing one's self to counter cognitive disorders.

I passed on tracking down CC. My back hurt, so I just crashed for 2 hours.

I watched a little of Netflix's Kaos; like The Decameron, I am just not getting that excited. Too many names, too little to care about, but damn they were done well.

I finished Welles' The Other Side of the Wind, and then Netflix took me into the documentary about the movie. I have started a draft on the movie that will be a separate post. Right now, take a look at both, if you have Netflix.

I knocked off a couple of posts for later this weekend.

Edge crashed twice, I ate dinner, and that was my day.

A scary story for the new year from The Brennan Center: The Little-Known Federal Agency That’s Primed to Crack Down on Dissent.

Two movies I want to see were reviewed on RogerEbert.com: Nosferatu, and A Complete Unknown. Reading the reviews makes me want to see them even more. Babygirl keeps getting more and more intriguing - pretty sure that will shock my MIA PO. The review put in my head that he thinks of sex as an obsession, and I think of it as a fact. Which is why I must puzzle him by my disinterest. I do not have the time for having women underfoot, and I want time to enjoy my retirement.
