Play Preview

From Nuvo comes Founding contradictions: how do we identify ourselves individually & collectively? previewing a world premier of a play in Indianapolis, “The Reclamation of Madison Hemings.”

IRT’s synopsis informs: “The Civil War has ended. Madison Hemings, son of Sally Hemings and Thomas Jefferson, and Israel Jefferson, formerly enslaved footman, return to Monticello in search of Israel’s long-lost brother. Together, they must face conflicting feelings about their shared past, as they reframe the narrative of American history. Slavery has been abolished, but what really has changed? From what personal bonds do we need to break free? And where do we need to hold on tight?”

Live on Indiana Repertory Theatre's OneAmerica Stage through April 16 and streaming online from April 11-24.
