A strange brew is this, and not all of it is pretty. Partially a record of a crackup and partially a tale of rising from that crackup back into a useful life; and part of that is how I decided writing was necessary to my life and recovery; and another part is just keeping a record of where I have been and what I have learned. You can see the topics I cover the sidebar. The hope is to help others; the purpose is figuring out where I am going. Thank you for dropping by. Feel free to comment.

Mother Jones Takes on David Brooks
Mother Jones Daily published a piece in reaction to David Brooks' WHAT HAPPENED TO AMERICAN CONSERVATISM? Brooks argues conservatism is not what the Republican Party stands for now; that Trumpism is not conservatism. I agree with the Mother Jones writer - Trumpism has always been latent in the Republican Party, in conservatism. The fear talked about in regards to Trumpism always been present in conservatism, for conservatism grows out of fear of change. What turned Brooks (a person who I think rational and always worth listening to) to conservatism was a reaction to do-gooder idealism. That kind of thinking exists on the Right as.well as the Left. Would that we have learned to distrust those claiming pefect wisdom. Trumpism, seems to me, to prove a bunch of Americans have not learned that distrust. We should all hope that weakness does not destroy the country.
